Metaphors are comparisons that show how two things that are not alike in most ways are similar in one important way.

A simile is a type of metaphor that uses "like" or "as" to compare

EXAMPLE: He is as fast a a cheetah.

Some metaphors are not similes because they don't use "like" or "as"

EXAMPLE: He is a cheetah.
